Major companies in the Kansai region

In the interim financial results of major manufacturers based in Kansai, profits continued to decline due to the impact of the global economic slowdown against the backdrop of trade friction between the United States and China.

Of these, “Kyocera”, headquartered in Kyoto, was an interim financial result for the half year until the end of September, and sales were almost flat compared to the same period last year. It decreased 27% to 60.3 billion yen.

This is mainly due to the slowdown in China and other economies against the backdrop of trade friction between the United States and China, and sluggish demand for parts for smartphones and automobile factories.

In addition, Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd., a major electronic components manufacturer headquartered in Nagaokakyo, Kyoto Prefecture, posted operating profit of 11.3 billion yen, down 12.9% from the same period last year.

This is due to a decrease in sales of capacitors and batteries for smartphones in China and other countries.

Compared to the same period last year, the operating profit of semiconductor manufacturer “ROHM” decreased by 49.8%, and the operating profit of electronic equipment manufacturer “OMRON” decreased by 19.2%.

Mr. Tsuneo Murata, Chairman and President of Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd., said at the press conference, “The demand for next-generation communications technology and 5G is underpinning, but overall production of smartphones and automobiles has declined, and consumer sentiment has fallen.” Said.
