US sanctions are hitting the Iranian economy directly, but also drugs and food products, but the authorities have managed to find a way out.

According to the Iranian authorities, the country is self-sufficient in the production of more than 90% of drugs. After a period of shortage for some drugs and medical equipment, the authorities managed to find solutions, as explained by an Iranian doctor who preferred to remain anonymous: " With regard to Iranian medicines, there is no not a lot of problems. Foreign drugs are missing. When there are drugs produced in Iran, there is no foreign import. For a while, there was a lack of antibiotics, but the problem was solved. As for the equipment, there is no problem. "

Still, some Iranian medicines do not have the quality of foreign drugs, says Bagher, a 78-year-old shoemaker who suffers from knee and neck pain. " The difference is big," he explains. Foreign drugs have more quality. In any case for me. I used Iranian medicines and there was not much effect, but foreign drugs have better quality. "

Despite these criticisms, the government insists that the country is practically self-sufficient in terms of medicines, even though Iranians have to pay more and more to buy medicines or undergo medical treatment.
