The former president of Banco Popular Ángel Ron said Wednesday at the National Court that the main shareholders of the entity did not support his dismissal , and has read part of an email sent by the Shareholders' Union to the appointments committee.

The letter, dated November 25, 2016, less than a month before its dismissal at the head of the Popular, was addressed, among others, to Reyes Calderón, president of this commission.

In it, the representative of the Union, José Mateu, highlights the malaise of the shareholders with the succession of Ron , and points out his intention to "submit an amendment to all of what was said to have been done" until that moment around it.

In his statement to Judge José Luis Calama, Ron has provided this document, which reveals that the Syndicature feared that "the reengineering of a process carried out in a manner incompatible with even the least demanding standards of corporate governance" would begin.

"We would begin to do things wrong, as our level of responsibility demands, if from the zero minute we make it difficult to attend the appropriate debate to all the directors who express their willingness to contribute to doing things just fine," the document said.

Shareholder Letter

Hence, it is requested to submit the cessation of Ron to the board of directors in full, instead of having treated him in the absence of several directors, since "subtracting that debate from the majority, imposing on the president," constitutes precipitous and unacceptable conduct. ".

For the interest of society, the leadership of the president is good, the document continues, but "with the active participation of the appointments committee and all other directors", to "reduce the risk of divorce."

The signatory of the letter, José Mateu, finally requires joining the committee, guided "by an irrevocable requirement of rigor."

Angel Ron's statement , which the National Court investigates for the capital increase of 2016, is scheduled to last until Thursday.
