Health care, artificial intelligence, education and technology are among the most important sectors for British companies in the UAE, British officials said, noting that British tech start-ups are investing in the country and delivering their business to the Middle East.

The two officials told Emirates Today on the sidelines of GITEX TECHNOLOGY WEEK 2019 that the AI ​​and space sectors will be among the highlights of the 36 English companies participating in the exhibition.

The Consul General of the British Embassy in Dubai, Andrew Jackson, said that there are 36 British companies participating in the exhibition `` GITEX Technology Week 2019 '' which started in Dubai yesterday, pointing out that some of these companies come to Dubai 10 to 12 years ago, Others came for the first time in the current exhibition.

The latest figures point to a 4.9% growth in trade between the UAE and the UK, Jackson said, pointing out that the volume of trade between March last year to March 2019 was £ 17.2 billion (about AED 77.9 billion).

He said that there are many British companies operating in the UAE for several years, but the prominent feature now is to attract the UAE during the current period more companies working in the technology sector than other sectors.

He continued: «large companies have been in the UAE for decades, but currently there is a noticeable trend of the direction of small British companies, especially technological ones to invest in the country».

He pointed out that the healthcare, artificial intelligence, education and technology sectors are among the most important sectors for British companies in the UAE.

Britain's Trade Commissioner for the Middle East, Simon Benny, said: "Britain is one of the top five investor countries in the UAE, with 5,000 British companies in the country, while about 100,000 Britons currently work in the UAE."

He added that the British prefer to invest in the UAE, especially with ease of business.

Benny noted that the UAE government has taken serious steps over the past decade to facilitate business, making it the highest ranking in the Middle East in facilitating business.

He said that if the government provides more support to small and medium enterprises, this will contribute to attract startups, which is one of the largest growth companies in the world during the last period.

Benny confirmed that many British technology companies will come to the UAE to introduce their business to the Middle East.

He pointed out that the sectors of artificial intelligence and space and others, will be one of the sectors that will focus British companies during the exhibition `` Gitex Week 2019 ''.
