This is a case that revives the debate in Israel on the powerful interrogations of Shin Bet , the all-powerful Israeli internal security service. Samir Mina Salim Arbid, 44, is well known to the Israeli authorities. He made several stays in prison for his involvement in anti-Israeli attacks.

This time, he is suspected of having ordered a cell that is accused of carrying out a bomb attack last month that caused the death of teenager Rina Shnerb, while she was preparing to to bathe with his family in a natural spring in the West Bank. His father and brother were seriously injured during the attack.

" Extraordinary means "

Regarded as a time bomb by the Shin Bet, the service is said to have been granted by Arbid's lawyers the legal authority to use " extraordinary means ", that is, a derogation that allows forces to obtain information to prevent an impending attack.

Such measures may include placing prisoners in uncomfortable positions, depriving them of sleep, chaining them and subjecting them to extreme temperatures. Three more Palestinians are still detained in this case.
