Schweppes Suntory Spain, owner of the Schweppes brand in our country, has won a new judicial battle and, according to a ruling of the Provincial Court of Barcelona, is the only company with the right to distribute the tonic of this brand in our country.
The Court has rectified a previously issued ruling that allowed the marketing of the Schweppes tonic manufactured in the United Kingdom by Coca-Cola in Spain. After the ruling, you can only sell the tonic of this brand of Suntory and not Coca-Cola.
This ruling, which can still be appealed before the Supreme Court, adds to other court decisions in favor of Schweppes Suntory Spain. Suntory owns the brand in Spain, while the Coca-Cola group controls it in other countries.
The ruling "confirms that the rights of the Schweppes brand in Spain are not exhausted and, therefore, that the only Schweppes tonic that can be marketed in Spain is that manufactured by Schweppes Suntory Spain or another company in our same group", explains María Rodríguez, Legal Director of the company.
"We are very satisfied with the result of this ruling. Consumers and customers are a priority for us and when they ask for a Schweppes tonic in our country they look for a characteristic quality and flavor, something that is only possible if the tonic manufacturing process it is carried out under the control of our Business Group, "says Nicolas Imeneuraet, CEO of Schweppes Suntory Iberia.
