The General Council of Economists (CGE) estimates that internal uncertainty due to the lack of government in Spain is subtracting economic growth up to three tenths.

"It is risky to say how much it is affecting growth. In our case we estimate that some tenths, perhaps not more than three. We think it is exaggerated to talk about percentage points," the CGE notes in its latest Financial Observatory.

At the same time, he emphasizes that neither can it be forgotten that Catalonia, which previously grew above the Spanish average, has matched it and shows "signs" that it will do so even to a lesser extent, which will also contribute to lower growth of the GDP

For now, the CGE maintains its forecast of economic growth at 2.2% for this year, although "bearish bias." In his opinion, the growth of 0.5% advanced by the National Institute of Statistics (INE) for the second quarter "marks the possible projection of the next two quarters" and points to the growth of 0.7% achieved in the First quarter was "a mere technical rebound."

On the other hand, the CGE has adjusted its inflation growth forecasts, so it estimates that this will not exceed 1.3% at the end of the year.

In the current context of lack of government, economists denounce that the problem of pensions has been "parked", which affects the control of the deficit and debt, and a conflict has arisen with the autonomous communities by not charging the advances of the Budget of 2019 and the settlement of VAT corresponding to 2017.

"This is jeopardizing not only the attention of their basic services, but also the control of the deficit in their part. We summarize the situation as worrisome, both because of the seriousness of external geopolitical causes and political paralysis. internal to which we attend ", concludes the CGE.
