At a time when the plane, too polluting, no longer has the coast and where the train tickets are criticized for their price too high, carpooling him, pulls out of the game, especially during the holidays.

Perhaps you are one of the millions of French people who used carpooling to go on vacation this summer. The practice is more and more widespread, especially for work, but even more so in summer. "It's during the summer that we have the most trips," confirms Europe 1 Nicolas Brusson, CEO and co-founder of BlaBlaCar, the leader in carpooling in France.

"This summer we see a strong development of carpooling, even compared to previous summers. The practice has widely democratized.Today, more than 15 million French people use Blablacar.Mostly, half of the 18-35 years are registered on BlaBlaCar ", stresses Nicolas Brusson. So many young people, among drivers and passengers. Carpooling is indeed the ideal mode of transportation for traveling alone, with friends or as a couple. On the other hand, it is less suitable for families with children. "At home, families have more use of our bus offer," adds the CEO of BlaBlaCar.

Cape to the west this summer

This summer, carpoolers have opted instead for the west of France. "There are massive traffic increases to all a bunch of seaside resorts with little traffic the rest of the year - we have had four to five times more traffic to the island of Oléron, five times more to Étretat", note Nicolas Brusson. Here again, the heat wave pushed the French towards Brittany and the regions of the west, including the Basque Country.

It must be said that carpooling has evolved. No more trips that only stopped in the big cities. Nowadays, trips are going closer and closer to the final destinations. And then, it is possible to do steps to recover other passengers en route. But the main argument of carpooling remains its price: count about thirty euros for a Paris-Nantes, the double for a Paris-Nice. That's two times less than a train ticket.
