“The prospects are very good. The measures that were introduced by America obviously contradict WTO rules. We are absolutely confident in our position. The decisions adopted by the United States are so far out of what happened before that the decision of the WTO court will be unequivocal, ”said Oreshkin.
At the same time, he noted that the court’s decision will take place only if the activity of the WTO is not completely blocked, which, according to him, is currently trying to achieve the United States by the absence of its decisions.
“This concerns the work of the appeals body. The appointment of new judges is blocked. Because of this, at a certain moment the whole procedure of the dispute may be blocked, ”explained Oreshkin.
Earlier, the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia reported that the United States had blocked the establishment of a panel in the World Trade Organization (WTO) to consider a dispute with the Russian side over steel and aluminum tariffs.
It is noted that formal consultations with the United States in the framework of the dispute were held on August 30, and on October 18, Russia submitted the first request for the establishment of an arbitration panel on the dispute.
At the beginning of July, the WTO accepted for consideration a notification from Russia about the start of consultations on US duties on the import of steel and aluminum products.
