According to Yushkov, this statement can be associated with the attempt of the American side to expand markets for American gas.
“I think that in many respects this, probably, is nevertheless rhetoric, which is intended exclusively to please the Ukrainians, to support them. Judging by the practice that is now happening with the Americans, they want this rhetoric and support to force Ukrainians to buy American LNG with delivery through Poland, ”he said.
At the same time, Yushkov believes that in reality the Americans “will not put a spoke in the wheels” to the “Nord Stream - 2”, since this will damage American-European relations and will only “overthrow” Europeans.
“I think that the real opposition will no longer be to the Nord Stream - 2, but the second line of the Turkish Stream, because it is not yet built on the territory of the EU, even the route is not clearly defined. And there will be a major battle unfolding. Moreover, it will go through the territory of countries that are much less independent than Germany, ”the expert concluded.
Previously, Pompeo, following the talks with the Foreign Minister of Ukraine, said that Washington and Kiev will work together to counter the Nord Stream 2.
In the State Duma such plans were called vain.
